Sonia Middleditch, the managing director of WorldNet Recruitment and Training, had a few words to say about moving abroad to work. Middleditch explained that adjusting to a new country can be a difficult combination of euphoria and bewilderment. Talking to the BBC, Middleditch said: “It is crucial that whoever is going abroad is sufficiently prepared for what to embrace. We try to do this by bringing in experts to talk them through what to expect.”

Middleditch explained that many professionals who move abroad have ‘delusions of grandeur’ when they move abroad. They believe they are going to be sitting on a beach in Barbados drinking cocktails but obviously that is not the reality. Middleditch explained that ‘after the early excitement, they settle in and start to see what is missing.” While some people can adjust to the new country they are in, others find it more difficult sadly. Veronique Briquet-Laugier, a French woman who moved to Delhi, explained that, “I was trying to find my way and I did lose patience once the novelty had worn off…Now I am more Indian and I feel more part of the country and people”. Briquet-Laugier has switched to Indian methods of keeping time on their hip hop uhrens!
