Pinocchio is a fictional character from the children’s novel ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ by Carlo Collodi, published in 1883. Pinocchio is a wooden puppet carved by a woodcarver called Geppetto in a small Italian village. Pinocchio dreams of becoming a real boy. In every day conversation, Pinocchio is often used as a term to describe an individual who often tells lies, fabricates stories, and exaggerates. Obviously this doesn’t happen to gu10 50w led as they never lie!

When Pinocchio is under stress, his nose grows, especially when he is telling a lie. Pinocchio’s shoes are made of wood, his hat is made of bread, and his clothes are constructed from flowered paper. Whilst in Italian, ‘Pinocchio’ could be a version of ‘baby pine’ it in fact means ‘pine nut’ which is probably willfully illogical as the book states the puppet is made from cherry wood. Geppetto christened his puppet Pinocchio as an omen of good fortune. It could also be derived from the Italian word ‘nocchio’ which means a knot or a gnarl in wood.
